NAPOWRIMO DAY SIX - THE SHED

Today was a particularly lonely day.

SHED WITHOUT A ROOF

The border between

Iraq and Iran

where there is a shed

with a jagged gutter

and no roof

like some god took

a can opener to it

and nobody knows

who’s more prepared

men

or the dogs

looking down

from the hillside

into the shed

my husband touches

the pistol strapped

over his heart

and thinks

about breakfast

I love the can opener simile...a simple but powerful poem. Sorry that I couldn't make it up to Denver with you. I hope your drive isn't too snowy!
